Wines with No Pre-Nuptuals
by Dimitris Vasiliadis O'Hara Wines & Liquors
Spring is the time of year for beautiful flowers to bloom... and
weddings....These wine suggestions paired with menu options serve
a wedding that is featured in society pages or one that is on more
low key.. all guaranteed to sooth any wedding day jitters.
But they are not just for weddings but satisfy any
special occasion.
Pink Bubbly: With appetizers and cake
Taittinger Prestige Rose, Champagne, France ($60)
Beautiful to look at and to sip, this sapphire-hued pink Champagne
is complex, classy ideal for toasting.
2004 Iron Horse Wedding Cuvee, Green Valley, California
($37)
Primarily Pinot Noir, Iron Horse has crafted the perfect wedding
wine. Creamy and lush the peach-colored sipper ranks among my favorite
sparklers.
Freixenet Brut de Noirs, Cava, Spain ($10)
A great deal. This crisp, dry-style fizz overflows with strawberry
and raspberry freshness.
Sauvignon Blanc: For shellfish, salads, and spicy
dishes
2005 Jermann Sauvignon, Venezia Giulia, Italy ($35)
Jermann is king of Italian whites. Racy with mineral notes that
add layers of flavor and flair, this SB a star.
2006 Drylands Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand
($15)
By well-known producer Nobilo, this Sauvignon serves up pure citrus
fruitiness with herbal overtones.
Chardonnay: Pair with salmon, chicken, and pork
2004 Joseph Drouhin "Marquis de Laguiche"
Chassagne-Montrachet, France ($85)
Chardonnay perfection from one of Burgundy's best. With rich, lush
fruit flavors complemented by creaminess and vibrancy, it's a romantic,
indulgent sipper.
2005 Beringer Chardonnay, Napa Valley, California
($16)
This Napa winery is known for stellar Chards so it's no wonder they
can craft a buttery, oaky style with balance and panache.
Merlot: Serve with chicken, pork (and even chocolate!)
2004 Chappellet Merlot, Napa Valley, California ($35)
Merlot is about sultry smoothness and this red has it in spades.
Dense, with cocoa aromas and blackberry richness, it's a powerhouse
to savor.
